Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera
One of the most popular digital SLR cameras on the market today is the Canon Rebel XS. This 10 MP camera is ideal for a wide range of photographers from first time digital SLR users to hardcore photo enthusiasts, the new Canon EOS Rebel XS camera is a fast, non-intimidating, lightweight, easy-to-use camera that produces excellent images and starts budding photographers off on the right foot.
One thing that puts the Canon Rebel XS above others in this price bracket is the inclusion of the camera’s Optical Image Stabilized kit lens something other manufacturer have you pay extra for. What this does is to give you crisp focused images by compensating for camera shake from unsteady hands or a moving vehicle. This is one of those type of features that until you try it you don’t know what you’re missing, the results are pretty impressive to say the least.
Canon EOS Rebel XS Highlights
The Canon EOS Rebel XS is packed full with functionality, we’ve broken down the main items below.
What comes in the box?
So when you get your hands on your new toy what can you expect to find in the box?

What awaits you in the box.
So what’s it like to use?
Basic set up out of the box is a synch, if you’re coming from a point-and-shoot world you can be up and running in no time and producing far better images than you did with that pocket camera. Those who are more adventurous might want to spend some time tinkering with the various options available to them first.
Things we noticed straight away was the speed of the autofocus which was nice and quick considering what price bracket we’re in here and the quality of the pictures produced given it’s a 10MP camera. There is some debate on the internet as to why this 10MP version produces better results than those from say a 12MP setup, you can carry on doing your own research on this but trust us, it’s all down to the processor on-board.
Starter SLR cameras sometimes feel a bit cheap and plasticky, those tend to be from some of the lesser known brands. When you’re using something like a Canon or Nikon then it’s all good and the Canon doesn’t disappoint here.
At the price that this model is being retailed at you’d really be hard pushed to beat it. It’s a good enough price for those wanting to move from their trusty point-and-click without feeling like they’ve just gone and blown their months wages on something they’re going to sell back on ebay.
It can’t all be good, can it?
Yes it’s not perfect but it’s pretty close. Some users might find the ergonomics a little odd for them and it’s not weather sealed either but hey wait a second anyone buying an SLR should be checking out the weatherproof kit as well if they want to shoot in all conditions.
Overall we give the Canon Rebel XS a solid 4.5 / 5
